Home. What is it actually? Is it a place of security that you never want to leave, or a memory of something you have lost? And is there such a thing as home? International students at Hochschule RheinMain (HSRM) have explored these questions and artistically expressed their thoughts and feelings on the subject. They are showing their works in the exhibition "Home is ..." - first at the Kurt-Schumacher-Ring Campus in Wiesbaden and from April 10 also at the Rüsselsheim Campus.
A new home in Rüsselsheim?
The vernissage in Rüsselsheim also served as a reception for the new international students who will begin their studies in the Faculty of Engineering in the summer semester. In his welcoming speech, Dean of Studies Prof. Dr. Daniel Münstermann warmly welcomed the new students and expressed the hope that they will find a new home at HSRM and in Rüsselsheim. This wish was echoed by the city's integration officer, Mostafa Lyazami: "I wish you not only to study in Rüsselsheim, but also to live, laugh and make friends." He emphasized that home is also created through togetherness and grows with every encounter, every smile and every shared moment.
Door as a symbol of hospitality
For Bailasan Al-Thihli, who comes from Oman and is studying medical technology at HSRM, home is not a geographical location, but a sense of belonging. During the vernissage, she presented her drawing of a door. This invites people to come in and experience hospitality. Small traditions, such as serving dates and tea to guests, signify a sense of belonging and therefore home for her. During the tour of the exhibition, visitors were able to view the numerous pictures, which, in addition to beautiful memories, also reveal the darker, painful sides of the concept of home.
