Prof. Dr. Andreas Brensing took up his second term of office as Vice-President for Research, Entrepreneurship and Science Communication at Hochschule RheinMain (HSRM) on March 1, 2025. The new Vice-President for Education and Sustainability is Prof. Dr. Christian Schachtner. He succeeds Prof. Dr. Christiane Jost, who held the position for 15 years.
"I would like to expressly thank Prof. Dr. Jost for her work and commitment to Hochschule RheinMain. During her four terms in office, she has had a significant influence on the areas of Studies and Teaching as well as International Affairs at the university, positioned it excellently and actively represented and made the university visible in many networks," said Prof. Dr. Eva Waller, President of HSRM.
"At the same time, I would like to welcome Prof. Dr. Schachtner as a new member of the Executive Board. In his role as Vice-President for Education and Sustainability, Prof. Dr. Schachtner will dedicate himself to maintaining and improving the study environment and further developing study concepts. He will also promote the higher education institution's sustainability goals in line with the sustainability strategy adopted in 2024. In his second term of office, Prof. Dr. Brensing will not only focus on the topics of research and entrepreneurship, but also promote science communication at the higher education institution even more," said the university president.
Prof. Dr. Christian Schachtner has been Professor of Information Systems with a specialization in digitalization in administration in the Faculty of Design Computer Science Media at HSRM since July 2023. He was first appointed as Professor of Public Management at the distance learning institute of IU International University in 2020, where he also took on the role of course director and module coordinator for sustainability management. Originally from Bavaria, the law and economics graduate obtained a doctorate in interdisciplinary studies at the Chair of General Business Administration with a specialization in Organization and Human Resources at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Eichstätt. He also completed studies in administrative management at the Hof University of Applied Sciences for the Civil Service, in public law at the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, in European studies at the Berlin School of Economics and Law and a postgraduate degree in adult education at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. His most recent academic appointment was as Chief Digital Officer of the City of Kempten.
Prof. Dr. Andreas Brensing has been teaching as Professor of Physical Engineering and Medical Technology in the Faculty of Engineering at RheinMain University of Applied Sciences since 2008. In addition to his activities in research and teaching, he was Chairman of the Quality Assurance Commission for System Accreditation and a deputy member of the Senate. Previously, he was Dean of Studies in the Faculty of Engineering and Head of the Interdisciplinary Engineering degree program. After completing his studies in electrical engineering at RWTH Aachen University, the Diplom-Ingenieur obtained a doctorate at TU Hamburg-Harburg on the subject of "Microwave methods for magnetotransport measurements on semiconductor heterostructures". He gained several years of practical experience, including as founder and managing director of the medical technology company Cardiosignal GmbH in Hamburg. He has been Vice-President for Research, Transfer and Sustainability since March 1, 2022. In his second term of office, he will focus on the areas of research, entrepreneurship and science communication.
Together with the two Vice-Presidents and the Vice-President for Finance and Administration, the President would like to continue on the path of making Hochschule RheinMain an important driver of sustainable social, technological and economic transformation: "With the new President's Council, we continue to be excellently positioned. The changed structure of the individual departments enables us to better promote and qualify motivated talent for both practical experience and science, support start-ups and intensify the transfer of science to society. At the same time, we are further expanding our international network," says Prof. Dr. Waller.
