The three HSRM summer schools highlighted the university’s international outlook and thematic diversity, offering participants practice-oriented projects, international lectures, and excursions that combined academic learning with intercultural exchange and networking.
Media Management Summer School
In cooperation with the TeachingLearningCenter (LLZ), the Media Management program hosted its eighth Summer School at the Unter den Eichen Campus led by Prof. Dr. Christoph Kochhan and Gudrun Bolduan. Students from Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, the USA and HSRM took part. What began as a partnership with the University of Kansas, has steadily expanded into a Summer School supported by a network of international partners.
For one week, the program offered lectures on artificial intelligence, film color schemes, and digital networking, alongside a problem-solving task from partner Seibert Group GmbH (Wiesbaden), and excursions to Wiesbaden and Strasbourg, including a visit to the European Parliament.
Plastics – Boon and Bane Summer School
The Faculty of Engineering hosted a two-week international Summer School, “Plastics – Boon and Bane”, bringing together 17 students from seven countries. Among them, participants from Japan, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Spain and various German cities. Guided by Dr.-Ing. Tamara van Roo, interim professor of composite materials and plastics technology, the students explored plastics production, processing, waste issues, recycling, and related environmental and health impacts. They also visited the waste-to-energy plant in Offenbach, the Merck company, and the town of Freudenberg.
Future Leaders Summer School
Twelve international students from Singapore, South Africa, South Korea and the USA came to Wiesbaden to attend the LLZ’s one-week Future Leaders Summer School, joining six HSRM students. The summer school aims to prepare students for the challenges of a networked, uncertain world and to explore authentic leadership concepts in an intercultural context.
Through workshops, interactive lectures and a visit to HSRM’s RheinMain StartUpLabs, participants improved their self-leadership, emotional intelligence and intercultural communication skills. Among the highlights was a joint project where each group developed a mock monster toy. Participants then reflected on team leadership and intercultural influences on the final product.
