Further questions?

What is it about?

The degree program interior architecture offers students a generalist, artistic-creative qualification with a focus on design. Besides the field of artistic or craftsmanship-oriented interior architecture, this also includes architecture for trade fairs and exhibitions, new media with virtual and media architecture as well as stage and film set design.

The unique feature of the degree program is the one-year foundation course in artistic methodology. The focus of the subsequent specialist studies is on project work as a simulation of the execution of real design assignments. The core component of the generalist training is the completion of project work in required elective modules in the areas of space, staging, object and corporate architecture.

What can I do with it?

The bachelor's degree is a professional qualification in interior architecture for project staff in offices and agencies and meets the high requirements of independent project management ranging from preliminary drafts to project management. The degree program qualifies graduates for work in interior design agencies and in the professional fields of trade fair, exhibition and event architecture or in the planning departments of companies (lighting/lamps, furniture, construction companies).

For degree-seeking students: detailed information on admission requirements, application deadlines, etc. can be found on the German page.

Space and Staging

Through the interior design degree programme, students will become versatile generalists in the third dimension and acquire artistic conceptual skills to support their practical work.

Application deadline for the winter semester 2026/27: 15 July 2026

The application portal opens on 1 June 2026.

Program Objectives

Versatile Generalists for the Third Dimension

The bachelor’s degree is a professionally qualifying degree in interior design for project staff at firms and agencies. Even if students do not initially plan to work independently, the large proportion of coursework required by the professional association (A–D) ensures a wide range of career opportunities in all interior design and architecture firms, as well as in corporate interior design departments, where even employees are expected to handle projects independently—from preliminary design through project management.

The tradition of generalist training is continued in the Wiesbaden bachelor’s degree program while being appropriately adapted to modern demands regarding planning and execution conditions. This generalist preparation for a diverse and expanded field of practice ensures consistently strong market demand.

Artistic Conceptual Competence as a Foundation for Practical Experience

A distinctive feature of the Wiesbaden bachelor’s degree in Interior Architecture is the one-year foundational course in artistic and methodological training. Virtually free from the constraints of construction and implementation realities, this course is designed to provide a fundamental aesthetic foundation prior to specialized study. The goal of this “preparatory course” is generally to focus on artistic conceptual competence and, as a methodological foundation, to facilitate the productive integration of diverse practical demands in the subsequent project-based studies, guided by a dominant emphasis on aesthetic themes.

The integration of the excellent facilities—including workshops for wood, metal, and sculpture—into this foundational course ensures a high level of hands-on learning for the students.

Study Program

Case studies from all disciplines of practical experience

Project work—which simulates the execution of real-world design commissions—has traditionally been at the heart of the bachelor’s degree program. As a core component of the generalist educational framework in the bachelor’s degree program, all students complete these projects as elective-compulsory modules from the three areas

A: Spatial Design, B: Exhibition, C: Object/Furniture.

An introductory project in the 3rd semester bridges the gap between foundational coursework and project-based study. Practical assignments of relatively simple complexity provide the framework for applying all the competencies acquired in the foundational coursework—along with fundamental expertise—to independent project work.

Practical training ranging from exhibition and event design to media-based spatial design

In the 4th or 5th semester, students complete a practical project as a course project (typically in the Exhibition and Event Design subject), sometimes with external partners serving as clients. This unique project implementation, carried out under university supervision, provides an award-winning opportunity—beyond the experiences gained in individual professional internships—to engage in a (didactically guided) dialogue between theory and practical evaluation. The strong demand for members of staff in the fields of trade show, exhibition, and event architecture is addressed through a specialized bachelor’s program in interior architecture. In addition to craft- and art-oriented interior architecture with furniture design, this program also encompasses trade show and exhibition architecture, “new media” with virtual architecture and media-based spatial design, as well as stage and film set design.
