Education in Childhood and Youth
What is it?
In the blended learning degree program Social Work and Education in Childhood and Youth, you will obtain broad knowledge of the field and methodological skills with a focus on tasks in the educational context, as well as on the life stage of childhood and youth (0-27 years).
With this degree, you will be able to apply to all fields within social work as a state-certified social worker/social pedagogue. The curriculum of the degree program will give you special qualifications for consulting with, advising, and supporting individual and communal educational and learning processes in governmental/public, privately operated non-profit, and private for-profit organizations and institutions. You will be able to recognize where there is a need to take action, will be able to analyze and provide reasons for this. You will be able to draw up and implement corresponding offerings and support settings, as well as to evaluate their effectiveness.
This degree program offers you an ideal combination of online and face-to-face learning phases. Approximately 50% of the curriculum will be presented online, with the other 50% taking place in a face-to-face format at the university – each on two days per week. Due to this, you will be able to flexibly adapt your studies to your personal needs.
An important component of the degree program is the professional internship which you will complete on a part-time basis during two semesters. In this way, you will not only gain hands-on experience for the state certification; you will also be able to put what you have learned into practice.
What can I do with it?
The professional fields within social work range from supporting the development and executive tasks of clients of various ages to consulting with and advising people regarding the increasing complexity of work, family, and social life.
The aim of the degree program, apart from the qualification for all fields within social work, is for students to obtain a specific qualification as an expert in social pedagogic/social work-related professional fields in education with clients aged 0 to 27 years (from birth to the school – secondary education – working life transition), such as open-access children’s and youth services, youth vocational and professional counseling, family services, and social work in schools.
