Communication design
What is it about?
The Communication Design degree program teaches design, conceptual, creative, and technological skills for developing effective, modern, and cross-media communication. Students learn the fundamentals of design in areas including typography, photography, motion design, and video, as well as fields such as AI-supported co-creation, UX/UI, prototyping, and creative coding.
Practical project modules, cooperation arrangements with cultural and economic partners, and real-life commissions help to foster teamwork, the building-up of a portfolio, and employability. Small cohort sizes and intensive supervision ensure that students develop their own artistic and design approaches.
The degree program has access to state-of-the-art laboratories and studios – from risography in the printing workshop, to analog and digital photography, through to motion capturing, a film studio, and a lab for 3D printing and emerging technologies. A comprehensive assortment of loan equipment ensures that students can work independently even outside the university campus.
Sustainability, inclusive design, knowledge visualization, and entrepreneurship are core components of the curriculum. An international exchange program also expands students’ cultural horizons.
What can I do with it?
In the field of creative communication and depending on individual specialization, almost anything is possible. The options include exciting work at agencies, studios, and production companies, through to opportunities in spatial design (e.g. museums, exhibitions and trade fairs) and product development (including digital products), or freelance employment as a designer or filmmaker. There are also opportunities in media art. To find out more, take a look at our degree program presentation which has everything you need to know.
