Law in Social Contexts A specialization within the Social Work degree program
What is it about?
The specialization “Law in Social Contexts” focuses on the legal aspects of social work. You will gain broad knowledge of those fields of law which are of relevance for social work, and will learn to understand legal questions. Building on this, you’ll develop solutions for the world of practice – in particular for giving advice in legal contexts, and for application of the law in the fields of action of social work.
What can I do with it?
The specialization allows you to support people professionally and help them access legal services – by advising them, submitting applications or appeals for them, or by acting as a children’s guardian in court. Your skills will be relevant to many fields of work, because social work is often linked to legal questions. You might consider working for the youth welfare office, the youth courts assistance service, the probation service, as a custodian, or as a legal advisor in contexts related to social or immigration law. In these contexts, you will be able to advocate for people while justifying your position, support people in understanding and exercising their rights in court cases, and will collaborate with (other) authorities and institutions.
