As part of Dr Maria Wiesmann 's courses "Basics of Business Administration" and "Personnel and Organization" (Industrial Engineering and Management, 1st and 3rd semester, bachelor's degree), three top-class practical lectures took place at the Faculty of Engineering in the winter semester 2025/2026. The lecture series offered students exciting insights into entrepreneurship, recruitment and the work of a managing director - excellently accompanied by discussions and practical experience from the speakers.
The lectures at a glance
Dr. Bernsau from the RheinMain StartUPLabs
Topic: Entrepreneurship and start-ups
Dr. Bernsau gave a lively overview of start-up processes, funding opportunities and typical challenges when setting up a start-up. The practical examples from the RheinMain StartUPLab and the clear presentation of the advantages of this regional start-up infrastructure were particularly beneficial: access to networks, coaching, premises and funding opportunities. Students were able to ask questions directly about business model design, pitch strategies and funding programs.
Ms. Gutiérrez Quinteros from Lufthansa Technik AG
Position: Head of Recruiting for ENG, LTLS and OES
Topic: Recruiting and career paths in aviation technology
Ms. Gutiérrez Quinteros gave a practical report on recruiting processes at a global technology service provider, the skills sought and development prospects within Lufthansa Technik. Particularly valuable were tips on application strategies, requirement profiles and the opportunities for students to gain practical experience at an early stage. The discussion also focused on diversity, internationality and requirements for students in technical and Engineering roles.
Mr. Kunze from sta Schalltechnische Anlagen GmbH
Position: Managing Director (HSRM alumnus)
Topic: Sound insulation solutions and technical plant engineering
Mr. Kunze provided practical insights into the planning, implementation and challenges of soundproofing systems. His personal career from HSRM student to managing director made the lecture particularly inspiring: a real example of possible career paths after studies. Students were given concrete insights into the work of a managing director, the interfaces between technology, standards and profitability as well as exciting tips on leadership in today's companies.
Resonance and added value for teaching
The lectures were very well attended and aroused great interest among the students. The combination of technical depth and the sharing of personal experience led to lively and insightful discussions. The content of the lectures ideally complemented the teaching content and made theory directly comprehensible for the students. The balance between technical input, practical examples and career orientation is particularly noteworthy.
We would like to thank Dr. Bernsau, Ms. Gutiérrez Quinteros and Mr. Kunze for their willingness to share their expertise with the engineering faculty. Their commitment enriches teaching in the long term and opens up valuable perspectives for students for their studies and career entry. We are happy to invite the experts again - and look forward to further events of this kind that bring theory and practical experience together so successfully.
