How can you provide proof of your language proficiency?

I already have a language certificate.

You can provide proof of your language proficiency with a recognized certificate (list available for download here) (e.g., TELC, Cervantes, DELF, TOEFL, Cambridge, or the KMK Foreign Language Certificate). If necessary, please contact the TeachingLearningCenter (sprachenzentrumspam prevention@hs-rm.de). Please note: Certificates from private language schools or obtained online cannot be accepted. High school academic transcripts (Abitur) also cannot be submitted as proof of language proficiency.

I have already successfully completed a language course at Hochschule RheinMain – University of Applied Sciences and Arts.

Students who need to provide proof of level B1 can do so using a grade from an HSRM language course (at course level B1 or higher) on their transcript of completed modules and graded course components, provided the minimum required grade has been achieved. Below you will find a list of the levels for all required, elective, and supplementary language courses that have been or will be offered by the TeachingLearningCenter (as of July 2026) and can be used as proof of B1 proficiency. Courses in the TeachingLearningCenter’s supplementary program always appear on the transcript of completed modules and graded course components with the level clearly indicated.

Due to separate admission requirements or more extensive final examinations at the B2 level in some HSRM language courses, students who need to provide proof of B2 proficiency can do so by submitting a grade from one of the following courses on their transcript of completed modules and graded course components. In this case, no minimum required grade is required. Since successful completion of these courses provides proof of B2 proficiency, they can of course also be used as proof of the lower B1 proficiency level.

Anyone who cannot provide proof of the required language proficiency through any of the courses listed above, or who must provide proof of C1-level English proficiency for their application, will be required to take the Oxford Online Placement Test (OPT). For Spanish at this level—if no corresponding certificate is available—an examination will be administered by the Spanish coordinator, Ms. Eva Narvajas (see https://www.hs-rm.de/lehrlernzentrum/fuer-studierende/language-hub/sprachnachweise-fuer-studierende-auslandsaufenthalte). For other languages offered at the Language Center, the TeachingLearningCenter will be happy to help arrange appointments for language exams. In these cases, please send an email to language_center@hs-rm.de.

Students who cannot provide the required grade or have not obtained a language certificate can usually be examined at the TeachingLearningCenter for languages offered there and, upon achieving the required result, will immediately receive a certificate of their language proficiency level for their application. For other languages not offered as classes at RheinMain University of Applied Sciences, we try to provide support through contacts with external university language instructors we know, but unfortunately we cannot always guarantee this assistance. I need the Oxford Online Placement Test (OPT) as proof of my English proficiency.

If necessary, ERASMUS+ applicants may take the Oxford Online Placement Test (OPT) ONCE per application phase to obtain a certificate for their English proficiency; to do so, students may complete registration (free of charge!) for an appointment via Stud.IP (more information here). If you have any further questions, please contact the OPT coordination team. If you have already taken this test here at HSRM and achieved the required level, please contact the person who administered the test to obtain a certificate.

I need a DAAD form for my application.

To obtain this, you must take the OPT plus additional test tasks. When registering for the OPT (see above), be sure to send an email to language_center@hs-rm.de to also complete the registration for the additional tasks.
