Direct applications to the DAAD or other scholarship providers
If you need a DAAD foreign language certificate, please follow these steps: To obtain an English foreign language certificate, complete registration for the Stud.IP course “OPT/Language Proficiency Certificate for Applicants for a Semester Abroad (Summer Semester 2026).” To obtain a Spanish foreign language certificate, complete registration for the Stud.IP course “Spanish Language Proficiency Test for Applicants for a Semester Abroad (Summer Semester 2026).” Then, use the “Participants” tab and the subsequent “Groups” menu item on the left side of the Stud.IP course page to sign up for a specific test date. In addition, send an email to language-center@hs-rm.de stating that you need a DAAD foreign language certificate and bring a printed copy of the certificate with you to your test date. Students who need an English foreign language certificate must first take the Oxford Placement Test (OPT) as well as an additional oral and a written assignment.
Freemover
If you are organizing your semester abroad on your own, contact your host university to find out what language proficiency proof is required. In the case of TOEFL, IELTS, or other standardized examinations, you will need to find an external test center, as the TeachingLearningCenter of Hochschule RheinMain University of Applied Sciences and Arts is not a test center. If the university requires a DAAD form, a letter, or its own form, please schedule an appointment with the Language Center well in advance: sprachenzentrum@hs-rm.de. If you need proof of English or Spanish proficiency, log in to Stud.IP (Language Proficiency Proof for Applicants for Semesters Abroad)

Promos
To apply for PROMOS funding, submit the language proficiency certificate that you used for your application to study abroad to PROMOS. There is no minimum proficiency level required for this. For PROMOS applications, you can use your transcript of completed modules and graded course components or a recognized certificate. If you need to provide proof of your English proficiency and have neither taken any English language courses at Hochschule RheinMain University of Applied Sciences and Arts nor the Oxford Placement Test (OPT – English), please complete the registration for an OPT appointment in a timely manner (the test may be taken once per semester). If this is not possible, please contact the Language Hub. For proof of Spanish proficiency (excluding courses and certificates offered at Hochschule RheinMain University of Applied Sciences and Arts), please also complete registration in Stud.IP (see information on DAAD applications above)..
