Prof. Dr. Heinz Werntges

After studying physics and early staff work with microprocessor hardware and software, I completed a doctorate at the University of Düsseldorf with a thesis on neural networks in robotics. In the following 10 years, I modeled and automated business processes in the consumer goods industry. Since 2003, as Professor of Applied Computer Ccience at RheinMain University of Applied Sciences (HSRM), I have dedicated myself to the automation of processes at various levels - from measurement data acquisition (IoT) to smart homes, smart grids, business processes and the digitalization of administration.

When it comes to electromobility, I am fascinated by the new opportunities: If we succeed in tapping into the many millions of batteries of parked electric vehicles in a grid-friendly way, we can save costs in grid expansion, open up new business models and increase public admission to the energy transition. We are therefore working on concepts such as "vehicle-to-home" and "vehicle-to-grid", especially on issues relating to standardization and automation.
