What is it?

The new master´s degree program Sustainable Mobility (M. Eng.) is the first mobility program in Germany that focuses on bicycle traffic. The program pools expertise on cycling mobility and its main actors from various universities, as it is a cooperation between the RheinMain University of Applied Sciences, the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, the Darmstadt University and the Mittelhessen University of Applied Sciences THM. What makes the program unique is that it includes two endowed professorships by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure dedicated to bicycle traffic.
The Sustainable Mobility master´s program conveys all relevant skills for the mobility turnaround with particular emphasis on sustainable means of transport and other aspects of the sustainability discourse. The objective is training future researchers (especially in view of the research center for mobility and logistics) as well as specialists for management positions in the public or private sector. The master´s program follows an interdisciplinary approach. Graduates gain engineering skills in planning, designing and operating integrated traffic systems as well as skills in social sciences (mobility behavior in relation to gender and diversity and traffic policies) and economics (economic preconditions for mobility and traffic). Graduates will be able to develop integrated and implementable strategies to promote sustainable means of transportation, in particular cycling, while considering the rationales of all public and private actors involved in designing mobility.

What can I do with it?

The Sustainable Mobility degree program leads to a Master of Engineering (M. Eng.) that prepares you for the key tasks in designing sustainable mobility. These are: planning, designing and operating traffic systems based on sustainable means of transport and how the processes are interlinked, mobility management, handling innovative business models and dealing with current social and scientific discourses in traffic and mobility.
Graduates are qualified for tasks in planning and managing municipalities, engineering offices, transport companies and associations as well as offices in companies specialized in mobility. They can assume responsibilities in a wide variety of fields in traffic and infrastructure planning as well as mobility management.
