Building Revitalization and Transformation

The range of tasks in architecture today increasingly necessitates a debate on and the examination of the programmatic and technical modification of existing buildings. The objective of the master's degree program is to train students to be creative, critical personalities with a high level of professional competence who are capable of developing ecologically, economically and socially responsible solutions for construction tasks in the triangle of conflicting priorities between rationality, knowledge and intuition. The fundamental knowledge and skills acquired in the bachelor's degree program are extended in terms of scientific expertise and methodology to include a strongly application-oriented focus on building revitalization and transformation.

Building revitalization and transformation is an increasingly important aspect of architects' work. Due to demographic developments, smaller construction tasks such as conversion or revitalization are to be expected in the housing sector, as are major changes in the way administrative buildings are used. Entire industrial sites in urban areas are also likely to be revitalized. In this context, architects will also be increasingly involved in architectural heritage conservation.
