Mission Statement

RITMO: Interdisciplinary research for sustainable mobility and logistics

Mobility and logistics are key challenges. Efficient, climate-friendly and socially just systems require more than incremental adjustments. Instead, a systemic transformation of the movement of people, goods and information is required.

The Rhine-Main Institute for Transformative Sciences in Mobility and Logistics (RITMO) was founded in 2023 to address current issues relating to mobility and logistics. Around 40 professors and junior researchers from five faculties work in thematically focused working groups on basic research and application-oriented solutions for the transformation of mobility and logistics.

Our research activities focus on three fields of action:

Traffic

Systemic consideration and development of the market between transport demand and transport supply. Within the field of action, the planning, implementation and operation of infrastructures and services for broad and group-based avoidance, modal shift and compatible handling of transport demand are considered.

Traffic
Logistics

Holistic consideration, analysis and optimization of goods, information and financial flows. Within the field of action, procurement, production, distribution and logistical contributions to a resource-efficient and resource-conserving circular economy are examined in more detail.

Logistics
Mobility

Creating, promoting and ensuring access to barrier-free and needs-oriented mobility options. Within the field of action, the focus is on the needs of potentially mobile people, corresponding behavioral drivers and steering mechanisms for satisfying these needs.
