Brief project description

The Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (LkSG) came into force at the beginning of 2023. The goal of the research project is to analyze the associated social disputes on the legal terrain and to investigate the changes that result for different actors in global production networks. Legal theory research has shown that political disputes do not come to a standstill when laws come into force, but merely change terrain. This is because legal norms are not self-executing, but must be interpreted and implemented. The focus of the research project is therefore not on the law as such, but on the strategies that take the LkSG as the starting point for legal battles. The law is of particular interest because it is capable of significantly changing the terrain of legal battles.

The project is dedicated to the question: How are the legal and political potentials of legal struggles along transnational supply chains used by workers and their representatives to ensure the protection of human rights and labor rights at the national and transnational level?
