Brief project description

Representative study findings indicate that more than half (54%) of the German population (aged 15 and over) has only a limited level of health literacy. Particularly affected are (young) people in special circumstances whose socio-economic status is low. Despite the rapidly growing wealth of information on the Internet and the high availability and use of Internet-based media in adolescence, there is still little scientific knowledge on digital health literacy among adolescents. The goal of the research project is to collect findings on the general and digital health literacy of adolescents. To this end, students in the 8th and 9th grades at a total of 17 secondary schools in Hesse will be surveyed using a mixed-methods design. At the same time, structural characteristics of the participating schools are recorded and qualitative interviews are used to determine the experiences, assessments and attitudes of teachers who teach in the school classes surveyed. The findings collected in this way will be discussed and reflected upon at a transfer day with experts from schools, science and specialist practice in health promotion and media education with regard to their developmental implications and transferred into possible recommendations for action.
