What is it?

The health care system, as well as health care companies, are facing a future of complex challenges. With medical innovations, an aging population, rising health care costs, and tight public coffers, the need for highly qualified economists in this segment is growing steadily.

The bachelor’s degree program in health care economics academically trains process managers for the health care sector who can work at the interface between economics and patient care.

The first three semesters teach important fundamentals in health care economics and business administration:

  • Organizational structures of the health care market and models to organize and finance healthcare.
  • Budgeting, controlling, hospital accounting, annual financial statements
  • Medical knowledge for economists, ethics and social law
  • Economics, mathematical and statistical principles

Specialization courses in semesters four through six:

  • Quality and risk management of hospitals, rehabilitation and care facilities
  • Strategic business concepts & innovations, new markets, corporate health management, human resources

In addition, core skills such as communication, conflict resolution and academic writing are fostered in courses throughout the program. An internship semester enhances the strong practical focus of the degree program.

 

Formal aspects

  • Full-time, on-campus program
  • Students can start in the winter and the summer semester
  • Study duration: 6 semesters
  • Four-month professional internship in the 5th semester

What can I do with it?

The bachelor’s degree program in health care economics trains process managers for the health care sector. Graduates can work in the conceptual business design of health care facilities, the development and management of budgeting and controlling systems, as an adequate business interlocutor for medical management, with technology and service providers in the health care sector, or in advocacy, insurance or consulting firms.

 

Great demand

With the bachelor’s degree program in health care economics, Wiesbaden Business School has created another business program since 2013 that has met with high demand in the employment market. In the further development of the program in 2019, professors from Wiesbaden Business School have collaborated with many experts from the field. The result is a future-oriented bachelor’s degree program whose graduates are able to act in an economic and ethically responsible manner.
