What is it?

In our Mechanical Engineering degree program, students acquire sound engineering and methodological expertise. In addition to the broad basic training in mechanical engineering, the program features a particular focus on automotive engineering and virtual product and process development.

Students acquire comprehensive specialist knowledge and technical understanding based on scientific methods in the fields of mathematics, mechanics, construction, materials science, manufacturing processes, hydrodynamics, thermodynamics, computer science, control engineering, measurement and sensor technology, economics and law. The development of analytical thinking skills enables students to find independent, systematic solutions to problems specific to mechanical engineering. Students also acquire competence in project management, technical English language skills and soft skills, which are increasingly required in the industrial sector.

In order to be able to register for an examination or a repeatable graded course component (Studienleistung) from the 5th semester onwards, students must either select an area in which to specialize or continue their studies in general mechanical engineering. The latter specialize in the fields of power engineering, renewable energies, drive engineering, automotive engineering, production engineering, product development, simulation and/or aeronautical engineering.

Students who would like to choose an area of specialization can choose between automotive engineering or virtual product and process development.

The internship module and the bachelor's thesis are scheduled for the 7th semester. Both are usually carried out in the same company.

What can I do with it?

After completing their studies, the prospects for graduates of finding a varied, creative and well-paid job are excellent. Graduates typically go on to work in the fields of project planning and project management, modern application methods of product development, product and production simulation, operation, service and sales.

In addition to engineering offices and public administration, typical workplaces are large and medium-sized companies in the wider field of mechanical engineering such as automotive, machine tool production, power engineering and materials handling technology.
