Our Computer Engineering degree program provides ambitious technology enthusiasts with in-depth new skills and fundamental knowledge on a professional level by covering current and emerging areas of technology (e.g. RISC-V, cryptography for embedded systems, chip design). Platform- and system-oriented training in the field of secure and open source software and hardware development for embedded and IT systems makes this degree program particularly attractive.

What is it?

Low-level software development is a field of computer science which is steadily expanding. Networked, typically embedded computer systems (cyber-physical systems) and their application in real life (e.g. Internet of Things) are becoming more and more important in today's digital society. The degree program Computer Engineering specifically addresses this development and offers extensive computer science training with a clear technical orientation. Based on the fundamental competences from the field of general computer science, the degree program deals primarily with topics from electrical engineering and physics. Programming skills and knowledge of different programming languages at different levels of abstraction are also part of the application-oriented degree program. The overall aim is to gain a deeper understanding of digital technology, its building blocks and the interfaces between hardware and software. The future-oriented topics include:

  • Industry 4.0,
  • Internet of Things,
  • Embedded Systems,
  • Microcontrollers,
  • Programming in C/C++,
  • Safety + Security,
  • Electronics.

What can I do with it?

Thanks to their comprehensive education in computer science, graduates of this degree program are very well qualified for all areas of information technology. Due to the pronounced technical orientation of their training, they are particularly qualified for business application areas such as automation, embedded systems, networking and safety-critical systems. Thanks to their extensive training, they are also familiar with the dangers that can arise from faulty technical IT systems and are aware of their resulting social responsibility as developers of such systems. These comprehensive skills are in great demand, for example, in the automotive industry, medical technology or automation technology. A wide range of job opportunities and diverse fields of activity are therefore open to graduates of this degree program.

Duales Studium Hessen The degree program Computer Engineering is also available as a cooperative degree program. Prospective students can select a version which includes work experience or one that includes periods of vocational training. In addition to the higher education entrance qualification, applicants must also have a study contract with a partner company of RheinMain University of Applied Sciences in order to enroll for the cooperative degree program. Detailed information about the concept of the cooperative degree program and the partner companies can be found here: "Duales Studium Informatik an der Hochschule RheinMain". A flyer is also available which provides an overview: Die dualen Informatikstudiengänge (PDF 2,5 MB)
