AStA: General Student Committee

The Allgemeine Studierenden Ausschuss (General Student Committee) usually called by its acronym AStA, represents the interests of the students and is the executive organ of the university's student body.

As its self-governing body, it is something like a student government. This means that it deals with any current business that arises and legally represents the student body in and out of court. The AStA also represents students internally in its dealings with the administration, the professors, its organizational units, other self-governing bodies of the universities as well as externally to the media, the Hesse Ministry of Higher Education, Research and the Arts, the Hesse government, business partners such as the local public transport organizations such as the RMV and the RNV and many others.

The AStA is divided into different departments, that focus on the different needs of the students. The AStA's work includes for instance offerings in the area of cultural events and campus life, but also provision of counseling services for international students and assistance with finding a place to live or with the job search. In addition, the AStA also provides information on issues such as child care and financial aid. A part of the student term fees accrues to the AStA so that it can carry out its tasks.

The AStA is represented at all three study locations.
