Research Funding for Researchers at RheinMain University

Knowing is not enough; we must apply.
Willing is not enough; we must do.

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Knowing and wanting to apply is not enough.
We must also secure funding ...

Funding for your innovative project can be secured via internal research support sources of RheinMain University or externally from different national and international sources of research funding.

Internal Support

Different administrative departments at RheinMain University support researchers with project management, acquiring funding, hiring or presenting research and development projects at trade fairs. For more information, contact the staff of the Research & Development Office. In addition, the ELFI database (in German only) allows researchers independently to search for funding opportunities in the German-speaking world.

External Funding

In Germany, research funding for projects at universities of applied sciences can come from a variety of sources. Besides providing information about possible research funding, the federal government itself also funds research through some of its ministries such as the Federal Ministry of Education and Research or the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, which is involved in industry-wide research projects in the industrial sector as well as innovation projects for smaller and medium-sized businesses. In addition, researchers at RheinMain University can also apply for research funding from the Land Hesse, the federal state where the university is located.

Other sources for research funding are the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft or DFG), which offers a variety of funding programs, from funding researchers with individual research grants to the funding of collaborative research centers and international research projects. Research related to environmental protection can receive funding from the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt, one of Europe's largest foundations that promotes a broad range of green projects.

In addition, research funding at the European level as well as information about international research cooperation within Europe is available as well. For more detailed information on research funding opportunities, check the German pages of the Research & Development Office.
