During your studies at RheinMain University, you acquire in-depth, up-to-date expert knowledge in your field. Studying however also means getting ready for practical action in professional contexts. For effective action in a work context, additional communication and professional skills are needed. Working effectively in teams, communicating persuasively and constructively dealing with conflicts all belong to a set of skills that is decisive for achieving professional and personal success. In German, professional skills of this type transcending expert knowledge in a specific subject area are referred to as key competences.
The Center for Communication and Professional Skills is one of the central services of RheinMain University providing these "key competences". In putting together its program, the Center for Communication and Professional Skills categorizes competences as personal, methods or social competences.
Personal competences comprise a set of fundamental personal skills that enable people to actively shape their professional careers (for example time management and organizational skills, the ability to learn).
Methods competences comprise the knowledge and skills needed in order to reach strategic goals effectively and comprehensively (for example giving a presentation, moderating a discussion).
Social competences comprise all the skills needed to exchange information and communicate and the skills that help forming, shaping and maintaining personal relationships (for example communicating, working well in a team).
For all students at RheinMain University, the offerings of the Center for Communication and Professional Skills are free of charge. Registration is required for all workshops.
