Responsibilities of the Appointee for Gender Equality

The Appointee for Gender Equality is charged with assisting in the implementation of § 5 of the Hesse Higher Education Act (in German only) as well as the Hesse Act on Equal Opportunities for Men and Women (in German only) and the plan for the advancement of women. She is also responsible for developing initiatives to improve the situation of women among all constituencies at the university. The Appointee for Gender Equality is also the contact person for cases of sexual harassment as defined by the Equal Treatment Act.

  • The goal of policies for the advancement of women is to increase the proportion of women in all areas of the university, but in particular in positions of leadership and in male-dominated faculties and degree programs. Her policies are however not limited to achieving a merely quantitative increase in the proportion of women.
  • The policies aim at creating a university that is shaped equally by women and men, in which women and men find their interests equally represented in the curriculum and have equal opportunities to develop their potential, no matter whether they are students, teachers, researchers or staff in an office, a laboratory or a workshop.
