RheinMain University's Award for the Promotion of Gender Equality

RheinMain University annually confers a Gender Equality Award on outstanding projects that promote or initiate measures that significantly contribute to the advancement of women and to greater gender equality and that make it easier to combine studying or working at RheinMain University with family responsibilities. The award is meant to recognize and highlight the work of both individuals and groups in these areas. Both women and men from all three constituencies of the university –students, staff and professors – can be nominated.

More specifically, activities in the following areas may be eligible for receiving an award:

    • measures or projects that are suitable to increase the number of women students in degree programs where women are underrepresented.
    • measures that increase the proportion of women professors, in particular in degree programs with a low percentage of women students.
    • measures that improve the studying conditions of women students
    • measures that provide women students with support and qualifications that will aid them in successfully entering a career
    • measures that improve the conditions for combining work or study at the university with 
    • measures to improve the women's working conditions and the organization of their work
    • measures to improve women's opportunities for participation in the decision-making processes of the university.
    • measures to create day care facilities for children and caregiving services for family members in need of care

    Besides already completed measures, projects in the planning stage may also receive an ward if they meet the eligibility requirements

    The recipients of the award are chosen by the University Senate, who works from a list of nominations prepared by the Office of the President. Suggestions and self-nominations of members of the university are to be submitted to the Office of the President by May 1 of each year.

    The selected nominees receive the award annually by the president during a festive award ceremony. Recipients receive an award certificate as well as a cash prize.

    The cash award amounts to 6000 euros. It can be awarded in up to three partial awards. In years in which the President's Office does not receive any or not sufficiently convincing proposals, the award funds can be carried over to the following year.

    The award is to be used for university-related concerns. The amount must be spent within two years, and the President's Office needs to be informed about its use.
