There are currently more than a thousand students taking advantage of the unique academic and research opportunities at the Geisenheim Campus as offered by the Geisenheim Reseach Center and the Geisenheim Faculty of the Hochschule RheinMain University of Applied Sciences. Based on this unique arrangement, the Geisenheim Campus is able to offer a wide range of practical, future-oriented studies, with its modern laboratories, seminar rooms, auditoriums and media facilities. Along with our own winery and large open areas there is a greenhouse complex. Here you will find the best possible setting for a successful academic career.
Each year around 250 students earn their university diplomas in the form of a bachelor's degree qualifying them in Viticulture and Oenology, International Wine Business, Beverage Technology as well as Horticulture and Landscape Architecture.
The main focus of education in all degree programs is leadership training, especially management training in the fields related to wine growing. We offer a broad range of study opportunities, allowing students to enhance their generalist studies and deepen their specialized knowledge by pursuing their own personal interests and goals.
In addition, a master's degree in line with the Bologna Process is offered for all degree programs in the form of national and partly also international master's degree courses. These promote specialization and in-depth scientific study, made possible by the conjoint training of Geisenheim Faculty and Research Center. Our partners are renowned universities and research facilities, both in Germany and abroad.
The Geisenheim Campus also offers prerequisites for Ph.D. studies. There are currently some 50 Ph.D. students taking advantage of this opportunity, contributing to a unique academic atmosphere at the Geisenheim Campus. For the past three years, Ph.D. students have had their own organizational unit for the doctoral program which currently sponsors seven of the 50 students. The doctoral program serves as an ideal forum for interesting lectures, seminars and advanced training courses.
Success in modern professional life requires more than purely academic expertise. Geisenheim offers a comprehensive international range of studies which students can take full advantage of. More than half of the students of Viticulture and Oenology spend part of their practical study time abroad. New forms of instruction and study are an integral part of academics at the Geisenheim Campus. New media, e-learning, film presentations and even video conferencing are all possible here. And of course we offer an extensive range of foreign language instruction.
Over a thousand students, some three hundred staff in the Research Center and the Geisenheim faculty, professors, scientists, technicians, doctoral candidates, and numerous foreign guests create an inimitable academic atmosphere in Geisenheim, leading to close contacts even after graduation. The successful work of our Alumni Association (VEG) is an expression of this feeling of community.
“Geisenheim graduates are welcome most anywhere we go,” remarked a student of Geisenheim in a recent article in a major German weekly: her short statement expresses, in a nutshell, the unique characteristics of the location and the appeal of studying in Geisenheim.
