As an exception, the master's program in automotive and manufacturing engineering accepts additional students in the winter – in winter semester 2011/12 only. Please note the information on the program's home page.
The automotive and manufacturing engineering program has been laid out as a three-semester full-time program. Its modules are offered on an annual basis.
The following entrance qualifications are required of applicants:
- An above-average first degree in an engineering or related program with a minimum of 210 credit points with an overall grade of 2.5 ("good") or better.
- Applicants with an overall grade below 2.5 might be admitted to the program if they are able to document a special professional qualification in the field. Criteria for this special professional qualification are:
- special professional qualifications acquired outside of a bachelor's program
- concentrations or special emphases or project work during the bachelor's degree that is related to the master's program in automotive and manufacturing engineering or a bachelor's thesis in that field
- additional periods of practical work related to the master's program
- special professional experience or international experience related to the master's program
- a well-argued written statement presenting the motivation and personal goals for entering the master's program
The examination board decides on admission based on the results of its selection procedure. The board decides using its own professional expertise. The procedure does not include a merely formal comparison of the applicants.
- International students also need to prove knowledge of German sufficient to successfully engage in a program of study. Certification of German skills is administered by the International Office of RheinMain University of Applied Sciences.
- If they meet the requirements named under 1 and 2, graduates of bachelor's programs of other institutions of higher education with an equivalent content and the same number of semesters (210 credit points) can be admitted to the master's degree program of RheinMain University of Applied Sciences without fulfilling further requirements.
- Graduates of bachelor's programs of other institutions of higher education with a different program content can also first register for the relevant bachelor's program of RheinMain University of Applied Sciences to acquire any absent course component completion certificates required by the registrar's office, provided they also meet the requirements stated under 1 and 2. Alternatively, the students in question can decide to enter the master's program under the reserve that they will acquire the required missing course component completion certificates before registering for the master's thesis. Here students can take opportunity of the regulation specified by the last sentence in section 5.1.1. of the general provisions for examination regulations.
Condition for doing this is that the examination board explicitly approves and determines which course component completion certificates are required of the student. The examination board's decisions are based on its own professional expertise. The decision procedure does not include a merely formal comparison of the applicants. Absent course component completion certificates may come from the engineering, management or languages area. They may also be completed at other universities of applied sciences and be approved by the examination board. Before starting to take classes, students need to make sure that their selection has been approved by the examination board.
- Graduates of diploma degree programs who have completed coursework that is more comprehensive and thematically different from that of bachelor's programs and overlaps with the curriculum of the master's program in automotive and manufacturing engineering can transfer credits to the program. The examination board is in charge of determining whether credits can be transferred.
