Program Profile

The Master's Program in Applied Physics

New findings from research and development are being implement faster than ever, and there is a growing tendency for scientific insights to spawn entirely new technologies. Today's mechanical engineering is not conceivable without laser-supported manufacturing technologies, highly integrated electronic circuits not without solid state physics and quantum mechanics, and fuels cells build on results from interfacial physics. In science as well as in business, there is an increasing demand for people who are able to bridge research and development, theory and practice.

Learning by Researching

Our master's program's courses focus mostly on up-to-date, research-intensive engineering fields such as photonics, micro- and nanotechnologies, biosignal processing or interfacial physics. Therewith, our program is highly research-oriented. The methods and skills it teaches allow you to efficiently collaborate with scientists and engineers of diverse disciplines while working on the latest techniques and products or investigating hitherto unknown phenomena.

Researching is best learned by doing research, whether by working on a research project and the master's thesis, in our university's labs or those of our partner institutes, which highly value our students as part of their research staff – both before and after their graduation.
