General Information on ICC (International Color Consortium) Profiles

The eciRGB-v2 profile is the revised version of ECI's (European Color Initiative) existing RGB working color space profile ec1RGB 1.0. Currently, ECI eciRGB_v2 including its complete and detailed specifications are being submitted for ISO standardization and are expected to be incorporated into the ISO 22028 series of standards. This is an important step for ECI to further extend the already widespread use of the eciRGB profile. The inclusion of eciRGB into the ISO standard will establish the eciRGB profile as a worldwide RGB standard profile for use as a working color space in the graphic arts industry.

eciRGB_v2 reduces problems caused by color space conversions (for example color banding or color cast) to the technically achievable minimum at the current state-of-the-art. ECI generally recommends using the new eciRGB_v2 profile already when creating data. This applies in particular to converting from RAW image file data or 16-bit materials with a color depth of 8 bits.

Step 1: Profiling the Monitor

The computer-aided design laboratory owns a GretagMachbeth eye-one display 2 spectrometer that you can borrow to calibrate your monitor/TFT. With the most up-to-date version of the i1Match software, the profiling of monitors has become fairly easy. The software requires a storage space of 22 MB.

Step 2: Set the ECI Working Color Space in Photoshop

The current ECI working color space eciRGB_v2 is now available for downloading. Find the download on the ECI's download page on the ECI website.

Instructions for setting the working color space can be found in the following presentation (many thanks to the company Xright for providing the presentation).
