Distance Learning Master's Program in Social Work (MAPS)

The degree program master of arts in social work with the concentration community development and organization is a five-semester part-time distance learning program. The program leads to a second academic degree and is free of charge. The language of instruction is German.

Preparing for Leadership

While the program provides its graduates with a regular social work degree, its focus is strongly practice-oriented and prepares its graduates for leadership positions in the field. One third of the module offered focus on general competences in the area of social work and leadership theory and research, whereas two thirds are specific to the concentration. In its pedagogy, the program uses a blended learning approach, combining eight modules of web-based independent learning with integrated assignments as well as communication opportunities via a learning platform with four modules of on-campus teaching on eight days.

Research for Professional Action

In addition, an instructor-supervised action-research project constitutes an integral element of the program. Successful graduates complete the program with a master of arts degree (M.A.) and are qualified to enter the higher grade of the civil service.
