Here you'll find some first information about the media computer science degree program.
Computer science methodologies require the abstract reasoning and logical thinking abilities. In secondary schooling, these abilities are particularly being furthered in mathematics and natural science classes. Applicants with an affinity to using these abilities and with a penchant for graphic design are ideal candidates for the program.
Computer science constitutes the focus of the program. Students learn everything they need to know about developing up-to-date information and communication applications. For instance, programming with current system, scripting and mark-up languages forms part of the curriculum.
Software development, databases, networks and operating systems are the foundation for developing internet-based distributed systems and mobile communication platforms. Based on this, students learn recent concepts for the analysis and modeling of application scenarios and implement them in practical exercises.
In addition, they receive a visual communications training in the areas typography, page layout, graphic design, navigation and interaction design, information graphics and animation. The curriculum is rounded off by introductory instruction in the areas of media engineering, mathematics, law and business administration.
All lectures are complemented by intensive tutorials and small group projects with close contact to instructors. Students have up-to-date Windows and Linux work stations at their disposal. During the fifth semester, the program's academic education is enriched by a practical project in an enterprise.
In the sixth semester, students can follow their interests by placing individual emphases and doing practical work in internships that are related to their bachelor's theses. For this, the program's cooperation with domestic and international enterprises offers interesting opportunities. Upon receiving their bachelor's degree, interested graduates have the option earning a master's degree at the same faculty in the course of four additional semesters.
Media computer scientists are fully qualified computer scientists who take on challenging positions in the trade, manufacturing or service sectors. Openness towards new technologies as well as their understanding of complex technical and commercial assignments allows graduates to work in interdisciplinary teams and to develop holistic solutions in the IT area.
