Besides its focus on expert technical knowledge, instruction also familiarizes students with scientific and research methodologies. To this end, in addition to laying the theoretical foundations for research work, the program also imparts the requisite academic communication skills.

Research and theory on the one hand and practice-orientation on the other are by no means mutually exclusive. One of the central components of the master's program in computer science is its emphasis on technology transfer, or, in other words, the implementation and utilization of scientific innovations and research results in practical contexts.

Students of the program graduate with the academic degree Master of Science (M.Sc.). The Master of Science is a high-value degree within the uniformly structured European system of higher education degrees.
