The members of the dean's office have an advisory vote on the faculty assembly (§ 44 II article 2, Hesse Higher Education Act). The dean acts as chair of the faculty assembly (§ 44 III, Hesse Higher Education Act).

In accordance with § 44 I Hesse Higher Education Act, the faculty assembly has the following responsibilities: The Faculty Assembly deliberates on all issues of fundamental importance for the faculty. The assembly is in charge of

1. enacting examination and program regulations
2. proposing the creation or termination of degree programs
3. coordinating the faculty's administration
4. contributing strategic planning proposals
5. commenting on target agreements in accordance with § 7 art. 3
6. taking decisions on the hiring committee's hiring proposals for professor positions
7. taking decisions in accordance with § 25, making proposals in accordance with § 26 and appoint designees as specified in § 32 art. 4
8. proposing the creation or termination of academic or technical service institutions
9. proposing the establishment or termination of working groups
10. regulating the use of faculty's services in accordance with their terms of use
